In-Home Physical, Occupational & Speech Therapy
In-home therapy is physical, occupational and speech therapy in your own home. It is for people rebuilding strength, balance, daily skills or speech after an illness, injury or surgery. Medicare often pays as part of a home health plan, and Health First Colorado, BCBS and Cigna may also cover it.

Physical therapy at home
Physical therapy at home focuses on movement: strength, balance, walking and fall prevention. It may be ordered after surgery, a hospital stay or a change in mobility. The therapist works in the spaces the person actually uses, so the session can address real movement needs rather than a clinic setting alone.
A visit may include exercises, walking practice or learning to use ordered equipment safely. The therapist provides a home exercise program for practice between visits and reports progress to the care team. Goals and activities depend on the physician’s orders and the therapist’s assessment, not a fixed exercise list for every patient.
Occupational therapy at home
Occupational therapy helps a person work on daily activities such as bathing, dressing and preparing food. The therapist reviews how the person manages these tasks in their own home. Home safety and equipment needs can be addressed alongside the practical skills involved in everyday routines.
Practicing in the actual bathroom or kitchen makes it possible to work with the layout and equipment already there. Family training can help relatives understand the support the therapist recommends. Occupational therapy is a skilled service; it is different from a caregiver doing daily tasks for someone during a personal care visit.
Speech and swallowing therapy at home
Speech-language therapy addresses speech, swallowing and memory needs under a physician’s order. These may follow a stroke or another health change. A licensed speech-language pathologist assesses the difficulties and works on the care plan’s goals.
Family training helps relatives support the plan between visits. Swallowing instructions are specific to the patient and come from the treating team. Questions about safe foods, drinks or exercises belong with that clinician.
Does Medicare cover in-home therapy?
Medicare may cover physical, occupational or speech therapy as part of a qualifying home health plan. Physician orders and eligibility requirements apply, including homebound status for home health coverage. Therapy is not automatically covered just because a patient would prefer to receive it at home.
EliteCare is Medicare-certified and coordinates therapy from our own therapists and partner therapists. Health First Colorado and BCBS or Cigna plans may also cover ordered therapy under their rules. IHSS does not pay for therapy services. We can review the referral and help check the benefits that apply before arranging visits.
